An ESD-protected area (EPA) is a controlled zone designed to prevent electrostatic charging in order to protect sensitive electronic components.

  • Electronic components are made of extremely small structures and are therefore particularly vulnerable to electrostatic discharge: ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge).
  • An ESD event can damage or destroy circuits, potentially leading to partial or complete failure.
  • Such damage is often not immediately visible and may only become apparent over time.
